finally finished

The scarf of doom is finished! It took forever - 40cm wide, 2 meters long on 4.5mm needles. I've used Noro Kureyon yarn striped with Hedgehog fibres sock yarn (now discontinued, but cashmere/merino would perform even nicer) in two odd colourways I've found in my stash. Two or three purplish brownish gray skeins and one semisolid brown. I held the sock yarn double, because Kureyon is much thicker. I love the muted but rich colours and random stripes add a bit of whimsy.

Pouzila som Noro Kureyon vlnku a Hedgehog fibres ponozkovu vlnku (ktoru uz nepredavam ale cashmere/merino by bolo este lepsie) v takych dvoch divnych farbach, ktore som nasla zabudnute v skrini.

I made the stockinette body of the scarf first and then picked up stitches along the sides for garter stitch edging to prevent curling. Also I wanted the edge to be solid colour, not striped. It was a bit fiddly but worth it.

The wrong side came out quite nicely too - and I was a bit worried that I'll look ugly. I slipped all first stitches, which created nice chain at the edge.

I'm very very pleased with the result. I almost want to keep it! It's a gift for a friend of mine, I hope she'll like it. Also it's not too scratchy as the sock yarn softens Noro yarn quite a bit.

That is really beautiful. Did you stripe the two yarns every two rows, or are there some solid sections in there? I can't tell if it's just a trick of the yarn or not. Either way, gorgeous.

That scarf is gorgeous! I love the way Noro stripes, but it's such a shame that it's too prickly for my skin. Blending it with the sock yarn turned out beautifully.
